CAPITAL SQUARE THAI FOOD

After waiting out the rain we proceeded to dinner at the nearby Thai restaurant in Capital Square, where we had eaten when we were last there.  The place was not full as it was still early.  We ordered light dishes as we were still full from afternoon tea in Old Vienna Coffee House.

Papaya Salad

Raw Crab Salad  -  With fear of having a bad stomach afterwards I was a bit hesitated at eating it at first.  But it turned out fine

Crispy Soft Shell Crabs

Sour and Spicy Tom Yum Soup

No matter how full we were a meal is not complete without ending with desserts.

Delicious dessert but cannot recall what is it - durian or jackfruit?

Colorful rice balls in creamy coconut milk.  The balls were filled with rich gula melaka coconut fillings

JAI THAI

Always bypassed this tiny Thai eating place when hunting for eating places along East Coast Road.  It was always crowded and decided to give it a try one evening.

The place is small with tables and chairs tightly packed.  There is not much free space to move around after settling down.  There are many takeaways thus making the place crowded and noisy.  Patience is needed as they are short of manpower.

Fiery papaya salad to go with cups of water

Assam prawns a great dish to go with bowls of rice

Tasty kangkong fried with preserved bean curds and chilli padi

Creamy and fragrant green curry

Fried beancurd with tanghoon in vinegar sauce

A great sauce for the beancurd and tanghoon

The food is good and cheap.  It is value for money although you have to put up with the noise, crowd and long waiting time.

BIRTHDAY THAI

Celebrated birthday of a family member in Than Ying Thai Restaurant in Hotel Amara.  The place was cooled and quiet during weekday.

Fresh orchids in glasses were used as table deco.  The orchids gave out a sense of leisure and freshness.

Mango salad was addictive

Side order of deep fried fish skin.  Good exercise for the jaw.

Part of ordered dishes

Get started with tom yam soup

Fiery hot red curry

Cool green curry

Pad Thai on a sweet side

Crispy chicken wing a perfect complement to pineapple rice

Great sauce for the chicken wings

End with glutinous balls in coconut milk with fresh fruits

LEKTHAI

We crossed over to Center Point and settled for Thai Food at Lek Thai.

Stir fry asparagus  -  crunchy and tender

Deep fried beancurd  -  careful at first bite as it was super hot

Pineapple rice @ only $4.50, promotional price when you order the fried fish

Whole fish - fried till crispy crunchy but tender flesh

Mango salad accompaniment for the fish.  Sourish and fiery hot - siok

Grill sotong - bouncy & qiu texture

Flavorful tanghoon with fresh springy prawns.  The tanghoon soaked up the prawn flavour

Sweet mango slices and soft tender glutinous rice with aromatic thick coconut cream

Beautiful bright ruby in coconut milk.  A failure as the starch disintegrate as you bite into the chestnuts which should be chewy and qiu.

Overall the lunch cost less than hundred dollars for 4 pax.  No complaint.

THAI EXPRESS

2Thai Express, in my opinion, is considered a fast food chain.  To have authentic Thai cuisine I would prefer to eat in Thanying or Rama Thai.

Mango Salad

Sambal Kangkong - No kick

Green Curry - Watery

Soft Shell Crab With Tanghoon

A-ROY THAI

Another Thai food restaurant in Upper East Coast.   Food is much better compares to Lemongrass in Siglap.   As the restaurant is situated along the busy East Coast road and car park is limited, it is advisable to go during weekdays.

It is a family business and service is attentive.  The owner and workers are Thai and there are photos of the Thai king and queen on displayed.

We were served snacks as we sat down.  The sauce accompanied the crackers was fiery hot but was super delicious.  It was addictive as even though your palate was numb but has the urge to continue snacking.

The stuffed chicken wings were crispy fried and stuffed full of fish paste.  The accompanied sauce was tangy sweet.

The papaya salad was refreshing and sourish.

Tom-Yum soup was bearable hot and appetizing with tons of ingredients.

Big prawns cooked with tanghoon in claypot but lack of vinegar.

Pad-thai was so so.

The roast duck red curry was more on a sweet side and very creamy.  Should use fresh coconut cream but made up with plenty of baby egg-plant and duck meat.

The pineapple fried rice should be served in a fresh pineapple shell instead.

LEMON GRASS

Weekend is Family Day - we go out for dinner at least once a week and also a resting day for the family chef.

The food we had for the evening was Thai food in a restaurant in Siglap which we had not tried before.

Ice water and a basket of kerapok were served upon seated.

The Thai honey chicken was served with pickled papaya slices.  The chicken pieces were crispy and coated with honey sauce.  The taste was sourish sweet when eaten with papaya slices.

Green curry chicken was too thick for our liking and it was like drinking full-cream milk.  The lemak was overpowered by too much coconut milk.  Ample pieces of chicken and brinjal balls.

Tom Yam clear soup was served individually in a bowl instead of in a claypot.  The soup was not spicy but  sour and lemony.

Soft shell crabs were not crispy and lack the aroma of curry leaves.

More vinegar should be added to the vermicelli prawn served in aluminum pot.

The garlic fried baby kai-lan order was missed out.  Overall the food was considered mild for Thai food.
