PENANG ASSAM LAKSA

Penang laksa to entertain guests :

Penang laksa, also known as asam laksa.  It is made with mackerel (ikan kembung) soup and its main distinguishing feature is the asam or tamarind which gives the soup a sour taste.  The fish is poached and then flaked. Other ingredients that give Penang laksa its distinctive flavour include lemongrass, galangal (lengkuas) and chilli.  Typical garnishes include mint, pineapple slices, thinly sliced onion, a thick sweet prawn paste (he-ko) and use of torch ginger flower.

WONG CHI KEI

First meal in Macau at the old style restaurant.  Was told they are famous for their shrimp roe noodles.  Queued for nearly half an hour to secure seats.  Serving was fast and very noisy environment to eat in.  They have a selection of noodles, dumplings and congee to choose from.

The noodles was good but a tad dry.  Dumplings were huge and juicy.  The soup accompanied the noodles was flavorful.

The pork chops bun was fabulous, tender meat stuffed in a crispy bun

Hugh slices of cuttlefish with vegetables in oyster sauce.  The cuttlefish was chewy with good bite.

XINJIANG FOOD

Food served was common fried dough and noodles, a staple food as we go further north.

Beautiful pyramid of deep-fried, twisted noodles known as Sanzi.  It is a snack made of wheat-flour dough and pulled into thin noodles.  Sanzi is common snack all over China, wherever the Hui (Chinese Muslims) minority live.

Mutton herbal soup  -  Body warming food

Savoury mooncakes, filled with minced meat and candied melon

SILK ROAD MEAL

The meals that were provided were good and well-balance.  Everyday we had 10 course meal with beers and coca cola.  Although occasionally the dishes were oily and strongly seasoned, it was still acceptable for our taste.  The vegetables were fresh and full of sweetness and the noodles fresh and chewy.
